Impressum ausgeschlachtet

  1. That’s horrible – but what can be done about it? Would it be acceptable to have the Impressum as a photograph of your details, which web-spiders (or whatever they’re called) wouldn’t be able to find?

If so, that’s easily done. On a Mac, for instance, you could export the information to a PDF, and then, within Preview, save the PDF as a JPEG. So basically it would all look the same on your Impressum, but in fact it would be a photograph, and it would presumably be treated as a picture rather than text.

  2. The German Impressum can be a tricky thing, really. To comment on David’s idea with the photograph: I’ve tried this with my email address for some time. Fact is, there are always people who browse your site to get your information the good old-fashioned way: by typing it in manually.

  3. Thanks, David. I know how to do a graphic, I have just been too lazy to do one – I wanted to do one for my email address, actually.
I don’t even know what these people did – they did touch up the information. And I haven’t asked them to remove it yet, so it’s not so tragic.

Am wondering what the reaction of law bloggers is.

  4. Mich würde auch interessieren, was andere Law Blogger dazu sagen.

  6. I had a look at that site, and it seems to me that sites are only added if someone goes to the site and suggests a link. Maybe someone you know wanted to do something nice for you and give you more online exposure.

Your entry on that site does not look like one that’s been generated “robotically”.

I would not read too much into it, though. It would only be a problem, in my view, if your personal information were used for financial gain – e.g., selling lists with contact information for translators or translation agencies, etc.
