Microsoft is using machine translation to translate some help pages. But something is mysterious about this one.

I’ve been pondering over this one. Where does the “Wiener Schnitzel” quote come from? If I click on German translation when viewing the English article, I get “Pacific Rim”. Wiener Schnitzel???

    Regards

  2. Actually, I’m not surprised. I have a feeling someone must have planted this, but my Internet skills are not up to detecting it.
Someone posted it on a mailing list – I’ll forward the query on!
I nearly didn’t post this because it seemed dubious, but then I wondered if I’d find out what was going on.

  3. Paul, I looked at the page again and it’s been corrected. It says it was last revised on April 21 and is version 1.1. This suggests it was genuine (but still, not the work of the machine – someone must have put ‘Wiener Schnitzel’ in the dictionary for ‘Pacific Rim’, mustn’t they?)
