Proofreading/Korrekturlesen

Excellent Practicle Guide, 18 Dec 2009

This review is from: The Pocket Book of Proofreading: A Guide to Freelance Proofreading and Copy-editing (Paperback)
I am studying proofreading and copy-editing via a correspondence course, which is fine, but I was searching for additional help and practicle exercises without having to pay a fortune. I found it in this neat, concise and easy to read book. The writers style is very positive and even some of the more complex areas are handled with ease. The exercises included are worth the price alone. If you are thinking about becoming a proofreader, already studying through a course and/or just want some information about the whole subject look no further. I looked at many alternatives and eventually chose this after reading the reviews. I hope you do the same. If like me you live outside of the UK try Amazon.fr for this book, in the English books section, it’s cheaper because the price is already in euros.

Cheaper because the price is already in euros?

  1. As I know from my own books, Amazon applies different discounts in different countries. Also VAT varies from country to country. My books are published at a single standard price in euros but appear at different prices on different Amazon sites.

    • Well, I usually compare UK and German prices, taking the postage into account, so I know they vary. But surely one can’t assume that the euro price is lower – it isn’t always – and I am not sure how other Europeans would get on with the French site if they don’t speak French.

  2. One good tip for proofreaders is to read what they have written and check for typos and spellings.
At least the reviewer is consistent in his/her spelling of “practicle” ;-)

  3. Of course there are many differences as for VAT, for currencies, But I think that the point is to develop the idea of how to set up a business as a freelance in the field of proof reading and not that much to show the specifications of a tax system.
