LATER NOTE: Here’s another coot that crossed my path last week.

The last specimen is redolent of the Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park, exercising my knowledge of ornithology: a bald-headed coot, like many London Appeal Court judges under the wig, or a black mallard, M’Lud.
