  1. Interestingly enough, I let both roll over my American tongue and ‘interpreting service’ felt smoother and (therefore) more natural than ‘interpretation service’.

  2. Hmm, yes, I may even be wrong here! I did a Google search, without inverted commas, of UK sites, for interpreting and translation, and for interpretation and translation, and at least that indicated that ‘interpretation’ is more common, and that’s probably not for harmony with translation.

  3. Interestingly, when I applied to the Monterey Institute in the late ’90s, they continually referred to “Conference Translation”. They appear to have since wised up and now call their program “Conference Interpretation”.

    So at least the EU department’s in the right ballpark, comparatively speaking.

  4. Damian: so perhaps I shouldn’t be so critical of all the papers when they write only about translators.

    Jez: really, it’s a full-time job informing oneself about translation on the Net nowadays. When can we get down to earning some money?!
