Yesterday. The temperature is now around zero and feels mild. Canal still thawing. Last week I saw a boat coming through breaking the ice in the middle.

Relatively balmy here as well. Am procrastinating on work so spent some time identifying the building in question. If I’m correct, I can see how it might be a burning issue.
Well researched! As you presumably found out, it is a Schwelbrennanlage for exciting new methods of getting energy from waste, but on the couple of occasions it worked, it just succeeded in emitting noxious fumes. I think it was a present from Siemens. I did once see a Pocket Opera Company baroque opera performed in various locations inside. I think there are pictures of the inside in a flickr group.
Thank goodness it’s thawed out up here in Berlin. It was a nice cold spell (freezing spell?), but it’s even nicer now that it’s over. Two or three weeks of winter a year isn’t so bad at all.
Ich möchte Ihnen noch ein Beispiel darstellen. Das ist
die Schwelbrennanlage in Fürth der Firma Siemens KWU. Das ist immerhin auch eine Welt-firma. Da war es so, dass die Anlage, die sich im Probebetrieb befand, so gefahren wurde, dass man die Meldeanlagen an die Feuerwehr abgeschaltet hatte, weil die Meldungen an die Feuerwehr zu zahlreich waren.
Da immer wieder die Feuerwehr anrückte, hat man gesagt:
Wir melden das am besten nicht so häufig. Das ist für unsere Firma abträglich.

Das war
natürlich ein dummer Fehler im Handling. Das hat dazu geführt, dass die Schweltrommel explodiert ist. Ich konnte die Betriebsaufzeichnungen und
dokumentationen dieser Anlage, die mehrere Aktenordner ausmachten, über viele Wochen hinweg verfolgen. Ich habe auch feststellen können, dass relativ häufig Störungen im Betrieb aufgetreten sind, die jeweils zu einer Explosion hätten führen können, aber nicht zu einer Explosion führten. Das war eher
ein Glücksfall. Das möchte ich Ihnen einfach nur als Beispiel nennen.
