  1. If they are patient and wait about a thousand years or so, they might get a computer that complies with these demanding standards. In the meantime, why don’t they just employ a fresh graduate as a translation skivvy and train them…?

  2. So, by the sound of it, there is still no interaction in Strasbourg (France) between the translation services of the EU Parliament and of the European Registry of Human Rights building – right in front of it – where judgements are handed down only in French or(sometimes strained) English, compared with press releases in English from the EU Parliament I’ve always found very good and amenable to a straight-lift quote into translations I have done or been straining to do.

The England & Wales Master of the Rolls and Lord Chief Justice, Lord Woolf, claimed, shortly post-retirement, that most of the non-English judges at the ECHR do not understand the English they are adjudicating in.

Angela W-L’s exhortation to speak or write in the native language may, apart from Spanish etc, not really be a practical or translation cost-effective move for judges from such places as Turkey, Georgia and Moldavia.
