Germany refuses to extradite man to UK over concerns about British jail conditions
I know things are bad in this country – I know courts have been closed (even without containing RAAC), I know legal aid has been cut, I know prisons are overcrowded (while the government calls for more and harsher sentences) – but this still doesn’t sit very well with me.
The German mindset is hard to understand sometimes. I often get the feeling they live on another planet – Planet Germany. They are, well, consensus-based, even when (especially when?) the things they believe simply aren’t true.
Unfortunately, a couple of days later a man charged as a terrorist managed to escape from Wandsworth Prison – perhaps not so tough for him if he wanted to escape.
From Sky News: “Daniel Khalife escaped prison using material which may have been from bed sheets, court hears. The former soldier was arrested on Saturday after an alleged 75 hours on the run. Daniel Khalife has appeared in court accused of using bedsheets to strap himself under a food truck to escape from Wandsworth prison.11 Sept 2023”
