The Independent reports that a Scottish law professor, Alexander McCall Smith, has had unexpected success in the USA with his book The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. His female detective, Precious Ramotswe, has been called ‘the Miss Marple of Botswana’ by the New York Times. The book was published in an edition of 2,00 in 1998 and there are four sequels. There has been some discussion on a German weblog about Google recently.

The general point is if you’re in Germany, Google presents you with German sites or at least a German page. Even if you click through to ‘Google.com in English’, the page has on it an invitation to go to Google Germany, which means they know you’re German, and you’re seeing a page intended for Germans only. Ich komme bei dem Thema nicht weiter. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass das Gesetz das Wort Beglaubigung nur im Zusammenhang mit der Beglaubigung von Kopien, Unterschriften usw. benutzen will, bin aber nicht sicher. Hier sammle ich ein paar Quellen, damit ich eventuell später darauf zurückkommen kann.

Beglaubigte Übersetzungen werden im BGB und HGB erwähnt.

Hier das BGB zu Vertrags- und Prospektsprache bei Teilzeit-Wohnrechteverträgen (erst seit kurzem ist dieses Gesetz im BGB aufgenommen)

bq. BGB § 483 (2) 1Ist der Vertrag vor einem deutschen Notar zu beurkunden, so gelten die §§ 5 und 16 des Beurkundungsgesetzes mit der Maßgabe, dass dem Verbraucher eine beglaubigte Übersetzung des Vertrags in der von ihm nach Absatz 1 gewählten Sprache auszuhändigen ist. Continue reading →
