The site Echtename.de collects bizarre German names. It’s constantly being enlarged.

Of the many categories, double names (Doppelnamen) is particularly interesting, because Germans oftn combine two surnames when they get married.

The German legal bookshop Schweitzer has a superb commented booklist of books in English on German law, 51 pages long at present. In about four weeks’ time it should be online at the online shop. Or you can have it sent by email as a PDF file.

The person to contact is Bettina Kube, whose email address has the same format as those in the Impressum on that site.

The bricks-and-mortar shop is in Munich, very near the Hauptbahnhof, but there are many other shops connected to it throughout Germany, for instance Büttner in Nuremberg (just behind Karstadt).

MCNeubert presents a PDF file in German on types of business enterprise.

MCNeubert hat eine PDF-Datei zu Gesellschaftsformen online gestellt (über Liane Schönberger von Bestpress/ Eurojuris).

Vorher hatte R A Sevriens eine Datei zu Gesellschaftsformen in Europa als Link angegeben, eine PDF-Datei der IHK Stuttgart.

Diese IHK-Datei bietet einen kurzen tabellarischen Überblick. Mich stört aber, dass für limited company und zusätzlich noch für limited partnership ltd. steht. Ich habe festgestellt, dass ltd. in den USA tatsächlich für Kommanditgesellschaften benutzt wird, aber in GB kann die Abkürzung nicht für zwei verschiedene Formen benutzt werden.

MCNeuberts Datei (ich nenne es mal so) ist viel länger und detaillierter. Sie behandelt in GB nur limited partnership (hier LP genannt), limited company (Ltd.) und public limited company (plc). Hier ein Auszug:

bq. 12. Besteuerung (einschließlich eventueller Doppelbesteuerung, Umsatzsteuerproblematik)

bq. Gesellschaften bezahlen Körperschaftsteuer
(corporation tax) auf ihre Gewinne. Gewinne enthalten Einkommen und auch Kapitalzunahmen. Ab 5.4.2002 bezahlen Gesellschaften 0% Steuer auf Gewinne bis £10,000; 19% auf Gewinne bis £300,000 und über £300,000 30%.
Aktionäre bezahlen Einkommensteuer (income tax) auf die Dividende, die sie von der Gesellschaft erhalten. Die Steuerbehandlung von „close companies“, die 5 oder weniger Aktkonäre haben, ist strenger als für andere Gesellschaften.
Arbeitgeber müssen Einkommensteuer von den Gehältern der Arbeitnehmer abziehen.

Ich verstehe allerdings die Anmerkung auf S. 66 (von 171) nicht:

bq. Anmerkung : Sie finden hier lediglich die drei populärsten Gesellschaftsformen behandelt. Informationen zur Limited Liability Partnership und zur Limited Company erhalten Sie bei Frau Schönberger.

Gerade die Limited Company wird aber behandelt!

juraxx has arrived in Nuremberg with a shop for legal advice on the spot. The website has pictures of all the lawyers, although not much else about them. From the last entry, it should be possible from their hairstyles to tell what their specialisations are.

I meant to blog this a couple of weeks ago when I picked up a copy of justament, which is really for German law students. But the new one wasn’t online yet. Now I know from jurabilis that it is. There’s a two-page article with pictures headed Haute Couture für Advokaten, but it’s not about clothes but hairstyles.

They show a trainee with her hair as is, then styled as a family lawyer, a constitutional judge and a media lawyer. A young legal-aid lawyer is shown as a criminal defence lawyer and as an environmental lawyer (although he has the same peculiar beard in all three photos).
Meanwhile the coiffeur himself has no room for hair because of all his piercings.
